House of Blues Cybercast -- Atlanta GA, July 30, 1996Following are some screenshots from the cybercast. It was a novel idea but an exercise in frustration. Unbelievably, this show was transmitted without audio -- well, at least no one I know who logged on heard any music. So unless you could read lips with a 4-second delay, it was anyone's guess which songs were sung. Unfortunatley, "attendance" was limited, too; I logged on early but was bumped about 10 minutes before the end of the show. Rumour was that the performance was videotaped for later airing, but for some reason it has never been televised. This is unfortunate because many US fans have never seen Johnny and his group perform live. And many missed the '96 concerts because of the abbreviated tour schedule, which limited the number of venues. The cost of attending this particular HOB show would certainly have dissuaded quite a few of us -- they were more than $100 each! However, if this single 45-minute performance had been telecast, it would not only have given thousands of Juluka fans who could not attend a show a small sense of "being there", but also would have reached an enormous audience of receptive HOB viewers with eclectic musical tastes and considerable disposable income. Sadly, two years later, there is still no concert video of Juluka available in the States. |
